Good decisions are made based on knowledge and experience.

Specializing solely in data centers and mission critical facilities, our knowledge encompasses every aspect of critical infrastructure design.  'Critical' refers to facilities which cannot afford any service interruptions and must be in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

From Tier I to Tier IV designs, we are capable of analyzing and designing every component of a data center, from a building's electrical supply to the power supply of each individual server. Regardless of complexity, we provide customized solutions that accommodate both your current and future needs.

Kelvin Emtech possesses the knowledge and expertise in all aspects of data centers and mission critical facilities, including the following:

Critical Data Centres

Kelvin Emtech's knowledge and expertise are applied to all areas of electromechanical installations, from TIER I to TIER IV that cannot afford any service interruptions in the areas of telecommunications and broadcasting.

Lighting systems

Although the lighting system represents a small proportion of a facility's total load, there are ways to conserve energy through its design. A lighting system which aims to minimize light pollution will also contribute to the total efficiency of a data center. Our firm can facilitate the design of your lighting system, while focusing on energy conservation and decreasing operational costs.

Railroad switch de-icing services

Over the years, the Kelvin Emtech team has participated in the design and development of numerous innovative railroad switch heating systems, and offers you its expertise in the field.

Air Distribution

Kelvin Emtech understands the importance of air distribution within data centers. By optimizing airflow, this will contribute to prolonging the lifespan of your electromechanical installations. Our team is capable of analyzing you facilities and equipment to determine how to best manage the air distribution levels.

Cooling/heating Systems

Low vs. High Density Cooling Systems

If the cooling capacity of a data centre is less than 150 tons, DX precision unitary air conditioners are a sensible choice most of the time. When room capacity exceeds 200 tons, refrigeration plants seem to be a more appropriate choice because all the machines are grouped in one place. Contrary to popular belief, high density cooling systems are more economical. In fact, Kelvin Emtech was the first Canadian firm to implement a high-density cooling system.

Flexible duct cooling systems

Kelvin Emtech was the first to implement anti-static textile ducts in a critical environment. This innovative method gave new life to data centers that were not being cooled properly through conventional methods. The implementation of textile ducts is quicker and more efficient than the traditional installation of rigid metallic ducts. In addition, these installations minimize disruptions caused by human error. The re-engineering of your data center's cooling and heating systems can prove to be a cost-efficient approach rather than undertake any new construction.

Ventilation systems for uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and generator sets

A critical data centre is incomplete without an UPS room and its emergency power generators. Over the years, Kelvin Emtech has sought, identified and joined forces with seasoned mechanical contractors, who are used to working in difficult conditions and at a fast pace. Kelvin Emtech ensures an industrial-quality design service, which provides unrivalled robustness to the generator sets in UPS installations.

Power Supply and Special Distributions

Kelvin Emtech has aided its clients with the expansion and installation of new electrical equipment ranging in capacities from 400A to 8000A.  Increasing power capacity not only accommodated the current needs of our clients, but also contributed to advanced planning for future growth.

Various configurations are possible for electrical distributions, with or without the use of static load switches. This allows for distributions to be progressive and operable, and prevents our clients from losing any existing loads during the installation of future loads.

Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Installation and Replacement

Kelvin Emtech is a market leader with regards to the various technologies and topographies applied to UPS installations and replacements. Since 2004, we have replaced or installed many generators with capacities of 20mw or greater, in which the majority of these replacements were executed without requiring any interruption to the critical load. Our proven ability to perform successful equipment load transfers minimizes any deficiencies from affecting the operations of our clients.

Protection and Detection Systems

Fire Protection Systems

It is vital for your data center to be safeguarded in the event of an emergency. Our team is experienced in performing in-depth facility analysis to identify all potential hazards, as well as develop a customized solution to address your needs.

Centralized Supervision Systems

Critical data centre installations must be monitored and supervised remotely. Having a centralized supervision system is crucial for the control and management of all aspects of your data center as it can detect obstacles in its early phases and ensure prompt resolution.  In the event that BacNet, ModBus, LonTalk or other protocol fails, Kelvin Emtech can ensure that systems are equipped with smart stand alone controls so that it remains functional and in operation at all times.

The biggest data center is being built in Beauharnois

OVH, the first european web hosting company chose Beauharnois as the perfect place to build its world biggest "server farm". The previous Rio Tinto Alcan plant must receive 360,000 servers (the equivalent of 288 million DVD in term of storage) within five years. For now, 6000 servers are already running.
