Building electrical supply - electromechanical infrastructure

Kelvin Emtech can accompany you in every step of your project.

Kelvin Emtech’s areas of expertise cover every aspect of critical data centre infrastructure design, starting from the building's electrical supply to the supply of each individual server, while ensuring adequate cooling for each type of installation.  This allows the firm to accomplish the most complex electromechanical infrastructure projects.

Critical Data Centres

Kelvin Emtech's knowledge and expertise are applied to all areas of  electromechanical installations associated with ongoing services, from TIER I to TIER IV type (24/“forever” design) data centre that cannot afford any service interruptions in the areas of telecommunications and broadcasting.

Lighting systems

Kelvin Emtech offers its clients a lighting systems design service, which combines energy conservation, style and decrease light pollution.

Railroad switch de-icing services

Over the years, the Kelvin Emtech team has participated in the design and development of numerous innovative railroad switch heating systems, and offers you its expertise in the field.

Air conditioning / heating / air distribution

Cooling Systems

If the cooling capacity of a data centre is less than 150 tons, DX precision unitary air conditioners are a sensible choice most of the time. When room capacity exceeds 200 tons, refrigeration plants seem to be a more appropriate choice because all the machines are grouped in one place. In fact, Kelvin Emtech was the first Canadian firm to implement high-density cooling systems.

Flexible duct cooling systems

The firm was also the first to implement anti-static textile ducts in a critical environment. This innovative method generated a new approach to give a new life to data centres that weren’t being cooled properly using conventional methods. The re-engineering of existing centres is often a cheaper approach than a new construction. The implementation of textile ducts is quicker and more efficient than the traditional installation of rigid metallic ducts. In addition, these installations minimize disruptions caused by human error.

Ventilation systems for uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and generator sets

A critical data centre is incomplete without an UPS room and its emergency power generators. Over the years, Kelvin Emtech has sought, identified and joined forces with seasoned mechanical contractors, who are used to working in difficult conditions and at a fast pace. Kelvin Emtech ensures an industrial-quality design service, which provides unrivalled robustness to the generator sets in UPS installations.

Electrical supply and special distributions

Kelvin Emtech participated in the expansion and installation of new electrical supplies. The objective was to increase the power capacity for those clients who are operating data centres.  The goal of this conversion was to increase the capacity in response to the current needs, and to allow for anticipated growth.  These electrical supplies range in power capacities between 400A and 8000A.

With regards to special electrical distributions, various configurations are possible, with or without the use of static load switches. This allows for the distributions to be progressive and operable, without the client having to lose any existing loads, when installing future loads.

Installation/replacement of generators

Since 2004, Kelvin Emtech has replaced or installed many generators with a total capacity of over 20mw for numerous clients. Kelvin Emtech’s expertise and specialty are in equipment load transference that minimizes the negative impacts for the client.

Protection / Detection

Fire protection systems

Kelvin Emtech ensures that environmentally friendly extinguishing agents are deployed first. Alternatively water-based extinguishing agents are also considered.

Centralized supervision systems

The critical data centre installations must be monitored and supervised remotely. Kelvin Emtech ensures that in the event BacNet, ModBus, LonTalk or other protocol fails, the systems are equipped with smart stand alone controlles, to ensure that systme remain funcional and operations.

Replacement and installation of uninterruptible power supply (UPS, ASC, or ASSC)

A number of generators, totalling a capacity of at least 20mw have been replaced or installed by Kelvin Emtech since 2004. The majority of these replacements are carried out with no interruption to the client’s critical load. Kelvin Emtech is a market leader with regard to various technologies or topographies to be used. A total of over 25mw of UPSs have been installed by Kelvin Emtech over the last three years.

Kelvin Emtech in the Ride to Conquer Cancer on July 9th and 10th

June 20 2011

Jeffrey Gilchrist, a junior mechanical engineer, was the first employee of Kelvin Emtech to obtain financial assistance from the company under the new program to encourage volunteerism to support the cause in which he has generously vested. His passion for cycling will be put to the test this 9th and 10th of July during the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer; a cause that is particularly close to his heart. In order to carry out his plan, he must raise a minimum of $ 2500. Follow the path of Kelvin Emtech, donate to his cause.

For more information and to help Jeffrey, log onto his personal donations website.

We met up with this young engineer to learn more about his motivations and the organization he supports.
